PlayStation Plus Essential's October lineup is F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896, and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2. Sony's blog, posted September 30, says members can add them from Tuesday, October 6 through Monday, November 2. F1 25 and Hunt are PS5. World Brothers 2 is PS5 and PS4. The lineup can differ by region, so the tile you actually get is whatever the Store shows on the 6th, not the blog headline.
September's monthly games are on a shorter clock. Sniper Elite: Resistance, MLB The Show 26, Wobbly Life, and Chained Echoes can still be added through Monday, October 5. After that, the claim window is shut. A game you already added stays in the library for as long as the subscription rules say it does. A game you meant to add and did not is gone from the free offer.
Your profile does not care that it was free
Adding a monthly game writes a license to the account. It does not write a session. Until you launch it, there is nothing for the activity log to count. PS Playtime and the PS5 Games tab will either omit it or show a zero, depending on whether Sony bothers to list an unplayed entitlement. People regularly look up a profile in the middle of a PS Plus month, see three new tiles at the top of "recent," and assume the hours are missing. The hours were never played. The download finished. That is a different event.
The opposite mistake is just as common with Extra and Premium. Those catalog games leave on a schedule, and when they leave you cannot keep playing through the subscription. Essential monthly claims are the ones you add to the library. If a game you finished in September is still on your profile in October, that is normal. Leaving the catalog does not peel hours off a title you already launched.
Which of these three will lie to you
F1 25 is a career game with long menus, replays, and an online F1 World mode. Hunt: Showdown 1896 is an extraction shooter you can sit in for an hour between matches. Both are exactly the kind of app PlayStation times as "open," not as "you were in a race." A weekend of Hunt that felt like six hours of fights can post as much more if the lobby stayed up while you did something else. World Brothers 2 is the awkward one for a different reason: it is on PS4 and PS5. Play it on both and you may get two counters that do not add up, the same cross-gen gap as every other title that shipped that way.
The horror item packs Sony is running alongside the month — a Warzone bundle from October 1, a Hunt starter pack from October 6, an Overwatch pack from October 7 — need the base game and do not create a new library entry. Spider-Man: Brand New Day avatars on Sony Pictures Core are the same kind of nothing, as far as playtime is concerned. Cosmetics do not get an hours row.
A sensible order if you care about the log
- Claim September before October 5 if any of those four are still missing and you might play them.
- Claim October on the 6th, then launch anything you actually want on the record. An unlaunched claim is invisible later.
- Quit Hunt and F1 from the home screen instead of leaving them in a menu overnight, unless you want that night in the total.
- Pick one console for World Brothers 2 if you own both. Splitting the game across PS4 and PS5 splits the hours.
